How to get more search results with FrostWire Basic?

In order to comply with Google Developer Rules for Google Play we have been forced to remove YouTube & Sound Cloud downloading capabilities from the FrostWire version distributed via Google Play.

How do I get YouTube & Sound Cloud search added back to my FrostWire?
Get the Free FrostWire Plus from our website - and download from YouTube and SoundCloud in addition to BitTorrent. More download sources = more content = more search results!
The Free FrostWire Plus is now the fully featured FrostWire. The app on Google Play we now call FrostWire Basic, as it is a BitTorrent Client only.

Don't uninstall your FrostWire Basic - just upgrade to Plus to preserve all your settings!

1. Enable app installs from 'Unknown Sources' under device Settings > Security
2. Download the app from
3. Go to your Downloads folder and tap on FrostWire
The last step will open an Installation Wizard to guide you though the last step.
That's it - Happy Downloading!
1. "Can't Open File" error
If you've tried to open the .apk file (the installer) from your browser's notifications, pls remember Google Chrome does not open .apks!

We recommend you download the FrostWire Plus apk using Firefox, as the built-in Chrome web browser will only download the installer, but it will refuse to open it (a way for Google to force people to use the Play Store for installing apps). With Firefox and any other browser you can just tap on the installer name from Notifications to start the Installation Wizard.

If you don't want to install Firefox on your device, you can always open the FrostWire Plus installer downloaded with Chrome using a file explorer like My Files or File Commander, but any similar one will surely open the .apk file as well.
Very rarely we find that some devices don't come with an apk installer - a little utility - and use only Google Play to install apps. If you are still getting the 'Can't Open File' error trying to open the FrostWire Plus installer from a file manager, this might be your case.
To fix:
1. Open Google Play & search for 'apk installer'
2. Download any of the choices and install it
3. Go to your Downloads folder and open the FrostWire Plus apk again.
2. 'Install Blocked'
'For security, your phone is set to block installation of apps obtained from unknown sources'
Tap on Settings -> Security -> Device Administration check the box next to 'Unknown Sources' then go back and continue with the installation.

We understand that to some people removing YouTube from FrostWire might seem like a bad decision... We want to stress, that YouTube removal was something we were forced to do to continue distribution on the biggest market out there, Google Play.

We are already working on including more search sources, both BitTorrent and cloud based, to offset the loss of YouTube content and will be still offering the full version – now named FrostWire Plus - on our homepage. We want to ensure you can still enjoy FrostWire's full downloading capabilities that let you access millions of Free, Creative Commons and Public Domain works available on the BitTorrent Network, YouTube & Sound Cloud.

We certainly appreciate your support. It's the users like you, your continued use of the application, your donations & merchandise purchases help us keep this free & open source project active - both on Android and on Desktop. Thanks!
